Hi, need some advice please, currently on a dmp but always kept my mobile as this was part of my budget, however lost my job a while ago and now one payment behind, they did help me for 3 months but now Ive called them to say i just dont have the money which I dont, its all a bit of a mess to be honest, the girl said that I would get an opportunity to pay before they give it to a debt collector ? if i had the money I would have paid it and wouldnt be in this position, although she was sympathatic she couldnt help
Now Im worried, Ive still got about 16 months to run off a 24 month contract, what will happen as its really bothering me and thats why im posting this am I going to get a huge bill ?
Any help would be appreciated, thankyou

Could you negotiate a cheaper tariff? This may not help you all that much in the short-term, but long-term it will reduce any amount they pursue you for??
Is the phone handset worth much??Debt now £48,000 in the form of a mortgage

Hi, thanks for the reply, Ill give them a call and ask if they can reduce my tariff which is an iphone4 £45 / month and see what happens.... if it goes to Debt collector what would I roughly owe ?Dmp Mutual Support thread member No 820

I believe that they than can pursue you for the arrears and payment of the remaining contract too.Debt now £48,000 in the form of a mortgage

The remainder of your contract would be £720 plus whatever else you currently owe them now. Plus when it gets to the debt collector stage they will probably add on their own fees too.0

Why not sell the phone? Surely that would cover a large chuck of the outstanding contract?
Then buy a cheap PAYG phone for the time being...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

You know what, I didnt even think about that !! Doh !
I think thats probably the best Idea
as you say it would go some way to cover some of the contract, in the meantime Im going to see if there is anyway I can get my plan reduced ?
Thankyou for all your replies :TDmp Mutual Support thread member No 820 -

If you ask them to cancel your contract, whilst you will have to pay of the remainder of the term (so if your case, 16 months) you wont have to pay the VAT associated with it. Which will certainly help
