Old style moneysaving for health

Options
Sorry for the ambiguous title, I was wondering if anyone has experimented with old fashioned cleaning methods, and perhaps meals as well for health reasons? e.g allergic reactions.

I'm looking at getting rid of detergents primarily, using soap flakes, soda crystals, white vinegar bicarb etc to see if it will help with eczema.

We've had to cook almost completely from scratch for the past 18 months as DS is allergic to milk, eggs and nuts (fingers crossed he will grow out of it soon). Not only does he get hives and start swelling up if he touches those foods, his eczema is worse if I consume them and breastfeed him so we as a family have cut them all out.

We also find his eczema is better if we use non-bio washing powder and vinegar as a conditioner. (we tried eco balls but I found they didn't clean the washing well enough). Not gone quite so far as to abolish cleaning fluids, but typically only damp dust and hoover the house, and use washing up liquid on the hard floors and method products in the kitchen or bathroom. Bleach is for toilets and drains only.
