Ginger Beards Quest To Be MF

-
Good evening all,
I've just changed channel so I can have Grand Designs in the background for more inspiration and dreaming whilst writing this. I'm seriously addicted to GD and me and the OH are pretty sure that when we do eventually become MF, the next house should be designed by us to suit us the Grand Designed way. For those of you fellow GD lovers, you might have seen a young couple in Herefordshire build an oak framed house. Me and the OH are in complete agreement that we want this style house with visable beams, mixing a rustic country house with modern features throughout.
I've just spent an hour reading Wynnvegas' diary as well, and I'm in complete agreement with him.........I've looked at houses between the £300-£500k range (ambitious???) and there are some fantastic houses on the market, but not perfect. If you used that money to build your own house, there simply isn't a comparison to what you could potentially end up with. I also don't think you could beat the feeling of completing a house from scratch that you and your OH design and build. Paying off a mortgage is a huge achievement in itself, and one I would be massively proud with. But, having your own property that you've designed to suit you, and eventually live in, must be one of the greatest feelings in a lifetime.
violins please.......... I'm one of those people that constantly strive for things and I'm always shooting for the stars, but if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't think I've been completely satisfied with what I've achieved in life so far. I tend to wash things over as ordinary tasks that anybody could do.
(apart from meeting my fantastic fiance, who is without question is a unique women, and I'm so lucky to be with) :j
I want to shoot for these 2 goals, as I believe they're both hugely challenging, but ultimately attainable, and I think I could be truely satisfied with my accomplishments for a long, long time.
So there it is, my long term goal! I think I needed to get that off my ginger chest, as I feel quite good now. I don't want to be dwelling on this, but I do want to use it as a reminder of what this is all for. I have a website I look at with lovely Oak Framed houses (house pawn) if I ever feel deflated about scrimping and saving, and I think the secret to MF success is consistent effort. So, these little tasks need to be repeated day after day, year after year, and before I know it, Oak framed dreams...............easy!
After much of my rambling, Grand designs is half way thorugh, and I must get back to Kev's elequent scepticism.

Yes it's his eloquent scepticism I find irresistible as well
Keep hold of that dream GB, if you want it hard enough you'll find away :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hey Ginger Beard, good luck with the journey it could be as long or as short as you make it !!
Quick note, on your post yesterday at 7:21Am its a bit confusing as you say - 'In Dec 2012 I'll be 39' I guessed that you meant 2021 !!
Did confuse me for a while !!!

Hi Shady,
Thanks for the good wishes, much appreciated! :T
ha ha. I'm sorry about the morning post the other day. You're spot on!, got my 1s and 2s a bit muddled up!
I have full admiration for you battling on to be MF on your salary alone, and the fact you have 3 little ones to finance. I wish you all the very best with that. But, you're right with the low interst rates. I saw the latest news article on the homepage of MSE and it says the BOE base rate is staying at 0.5% which for us MFW's is great news, and long may it continue.
I will certianly keep an eye on how your diary. Good luck!

Hi Ginger Beard,
Have just subscribed to your diary so will be interesting to watch your progress. Am totally with you on the Grand Designs thing, love the programme! And yes would love that dream house one day too! OH is a carpenter/builder/etc so I have the tools to do it, just need enough money to be able to realise it!
:T0 -
Hi GreenNinja
Firtsly, love the name!
Secondly, thanks for subscribing, very nice to think people will be reading my progress, I'm honoured. (scratches beard) How do you subscribe to diaries as I've just been going in manually all the time?
Thirdly, grand designs is fantastic isn't it! You must be loving the fact that the OH can help contribute to the building itself as well, when that time comes. What GD made me realise is that financially, it's more viable to make your own home, and although it's more time consuming, stressful and difficult, the results are worth it. So, keep in there, and good luck with the fund!
I'LL be keeping an eye on your progress, in the long winded manual way, unitil I finally find out to subscribe!
All the best Ninja!

Open a diary. Look at the top of the page - not the very top, but just above the top post. There's a green bar. At the right hand end are three drop down menus. Choose "thread tools" and then "subscribe to this thread". Choose whether you want it to email you notifications or not, and confirm. Job done.

Thanks Lois! You are once again my saviour! :T
I'm really enjoying my early steps in car booting, and this sunday I managed to buy 3 quality DVD's for 70p. So, I should be able make a nice profit on that. I know it's not huge, but I enjoy bargin hunting and it all adds up to profits, so if I can consistently make buys like that every week, I should be able to make a steady amount over the course of a year.
I've sold £131.51 worth of items on ebay in the last 4 weeks, which I'm really happy with. I made £167 on ebay for 2010, and my aim was to get £200 for 2011, which I'm well on target for.
I'm trying my best to rememeber to check OnePoll surveys, I'm currently on £8.35, and I need £40 to get a payout. I've been on YouGov for about 3 years but I'm only on £8.25 and I need to get to £50 for a payout. I have rejected surveys due to laziness over that time, so I'm trying to push for a payout on both of those for the rest of this year.
I'm looking forward to another Carboot shop this weekend, and also seeing how the items sell this weekend.
Have a great day everyone!
