Has my payment of tax already been refunded?

Hi, I was reading the MSE email this morning and it was on about tax over payments etc, and i remembered that I had been having tax taken off me (even though I am a student) for the last couple of years. It has been mostly during the summer months (I work all year round though, at same place for 3 yrs now). However I have checked my P60s and the tax amount is £0.00.
The wage slips after summer have then had say, '£10.00C' on the tax section, now does this mean £10.00 CREDIT? So have I been paid back the tax i've paid for the rest of the year? It still doesn't seem to add up to the amount of tax I have paid over summer though, all together I think I paid about £120 but have only been credited the odd bit here and there. One of them is £0.40C... so should I still get in contact will the HMR&C to see if there is any more tax that I could reclaim? Surely it couldn't hurt right?
Thanks.. sorry if I seem a little daft! :rotfl:

I've had this happen when I have started on emergency tax and then had my code corrected (or when an employer has put through a bonus as a all year raise on the tax code). When it changes the following pay period if you've overpaid based on your new code it will 'self correct' and issue you a refund in your pay packet.
If you want to you could ask HMRC to do a calculation for you and see if they owe you anything. I don't know how quick they will be to reply though.0 -
If your P60 says that the tax figure is nil then that is what the tax office will have for you. If you are sure that all tax taken has not been refunded then you need to take this up first with your employer. Do you have all your payslips to show that all tax taken has not been refunded?
Being a student has no bearing on this, there is a special arrangement for students who work only during the holidays, to avoid paying tax that will be later refunded, but you work all year so this will not apply to you.0 -
Thank you for your help! Will look into this! I think it has all be refunded now as I found a few wage slips the other day.:j
