Dilute handwash

Options
I've tried searching but I couldn't find any threads about this, although I'm sure there must be one

Most people, I'm sure, use more handwash than they actually need. It's easy to do since pumping once will give you more than necessary. For years I've tried to only partially depress the pump but it takes a bit of care and effort to do.

I decided to dilute the handwash with water to see if that'd reduce the concentration or if I'd just end up with a load of bubbles. Given that handwash is mostly water anyway it should be no surprise that I just ended up with slightly thinner handwash.

The implications of this are quite promising. If you mix 50% handwash and 50% water you get twice the volume, making your handwash last twice as long or costing half as much.

As I say, you could just be careful and the result is just the same, however it's easier to set and forget of course. For those of you with children, I'm sure it'd be easier to do this than hoping they remember to be careful!

Thanks for the tip but you can save even more. When your current handwash runs out, keep the dispenser and fill it with diluted shower gel. Many value shower gels (Lidl. Asda etc) are even cheaper per litre than the handwash.

That's what I do. Bayliss & Harding handwash was on offer in Asda ages ago, so I bought two and have been refilling them with Asda Smart Price shower gel at 10p a pop ever since they ran out. Unusually, even the kids don't seem to regard this as a cheapskate measure.

I use the 10p shower gel too, it smells nice and doesn't particularly dry my hands out (anymore than any other soap), it even looks like handwash - nobody seems to have noticed. ;)

I push the boat out a little bit more than you "10 pencers". I buy Sainsburys Value Baby Bath (11p for 500ml). :) It is not as gloopy as the value shower gel. My hands only have to glimpse certain washing powders/gels and they come out in a rash, but the value baby wash is fine :)

I should add that I always use refill with the old despenser. That's a given! I fill up part of the despenser with soap and add water. The question I've yet to resolve is how much can I dilute without ruining the whole thing!

How does shower gel compare to handwash? I guess you're cleaning skin at the end of the day although with handwash you can still have the handwash you like, various scents or anti-bacterial etc. etc. so no compromise. Of course if you don't care then you can save even more :D
