Power 2 Contact...Help?

Hi all,

Newbie here and in a bad situation :(

Basically, I was living in an apartment with a partner whilst at uni. Lived there for around 2-3 months until we left eventually without paying the utility bill (which has only come to my attention now when I received a call from Power 2 Contact).

I've been receiving there call for around a week now and every time I have answered it, it went to an automated machine, to which I hung up on.

Anyways, they kept calling for the next few days which really annoyed me so I called back to see who it was and low behold! Power 2 Contact  looking to speak to me regarding the utility bill from Npower. I hung up straight after as it shook me up :|

I have since moved from that apartment to some student accomodation and then back to the family address, out of town from the apartment.

I was just wondering what Power 2 Contact can do to me and what rights I have as I am really worried about it all. Does it affect my credit ratings? I'm assuming it does? :(

    Hi

Some utility providers automatically report to the credit reference agencies, some older account do not. So its probably likely to affect your credit rating but not definite.

Is it you or your partner they are chasing (are you still with the same partner?), was your name on the bill?
Is it your mobile they are calling? but you've not have any letters so far? it sounds like they don't yet have your address (but they may well find it).

Power to contact although a scary sounding name are just the same as any other debt collection agency. They will try to chase you for the debt and if they cannot get you to pay up they could decide to go to court to try to obtain a CCJ against you.

Do you know how much the bill is for? did you take readings as you left? was it just you and partner who lived at the property?

We had letters off Power2contact for halifax credit card which we have on a DMP. They said they would be sending someone around to help us remake contact with Halifax even tho we had been communicating with them via letters.

I sent standard letter not to bother sending someone around, but a man came earlier this week. I was going to tell him to take a hike but he 'seemed' so nice, and just give us a card asking us to call Halifax.

    Hi Sabka_Cleaning

If you would prefer to call npower about your outstanding payment you can. You can pay your outstanding balance with us and we can sort Power 2 Contact for you.

When you leave a property you always need to let your energy provider know. If a new account is opened with a new customer, if you have not paid any bills, they will remain outstanding and in your name.

Just give our customer services a call on 0800 551 555 and someone will be able to help you.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks
    Sally :)

thanks for your reply. It is me they are chasing but I am not with the same partner now- although we were living together, and i think it was my name on the bill as the apartment was in my name.

yes, they're calling my mobile and no to the letters - have not received anything as yet =(

no idea how much the bill is for and unfortunately didn't take any readings either.

what are my rights on this as I thought me and her were to be splitting the bill 50/50, but in the end, she couldn't afford to pay it.

i think we only stayed there 2 months max? also, the apartment was through an estate agent if that helps

    hi sally.

thank you for your response. You seem a nicer person than power 2 contact. never been in this situation and so its VERY daunting. Would it be possible to private message you so you can help? or can i speak to you directly over the phone?

also, what would happen if I cannot pay as I am not working at the moment and living with the family.

    thanks

You would be fully liable for the debt, power 2 contact are not a bad bunch to deal with. But if npower are offering to setup a plan contact them before npower instructs them to take court action against you
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
