I'm having people round for a curry today. I was going to cook basmati rice just before people arrive and leave it in the saucepan for people to help themselves. Will basmati be ok or would normal long grain rice hold it's shape better?
(I am aware that rice is a bacteria breeding ground so will be getting people to eat sooner rather than later!)

I've never cooked basmati rice, always use the long grain rice. However, I went to a party before Christmas and the hosts made chili with rice. Chili was in a saucepan on the hob and they kept the rice warm in the oven by putting in a large oven tray and covering in a double layer of foil. As far as I know we all lived to see Christmas and New Year.0
