I'd add "repeated sales calls to which I've said no" as the reason

    From Centrica's results:
UK residential energy operating profit halved from the exceptional levels recorded in 2010

As with HSBC, BP, Shell and a host of other successful UK companies the greedy UK public think they're entitled to steal more money via taxation for the good work done in the rest of the world.

But people WILL die this winter due to not being able to afford to heat their homes sufficiently
The operating profit of £16.73* per residential customer account is hardly responsible for this. After tax and interest Centrica are making a little over a tenner for each account. They also added 110,000 customers in the first half of the year, outrageous!

Centrica's operating margin on its UK residential energy supply business is 6.5%. I'd recommend one-way tickets to North Korea for anyone who thinks a nationalised service would save money.

The big hikes in energy bills have come from increased taxation and subsidies for trendy energy generation. Green energy is supposed to stop the heating of the planet which would save lives in Britain!

*£16.73 comes from the £270m operational profit / 16.1237m residential customer accounts as shown in Centrica's results (under UK downstream residential energy supply).
