i feed 2 adults and 1 child age 4 and i freeze leftovers
id start off with one big pot of........
spag bol to start with all the mince- including carrots chopped up into small sections/onions/peppers/mushrooms take out a quater of that into tubs thats the spag done
chilli remainder mixture- add differecnt beans and chilli powder or chillis? etc take out half of the mixture and put in tubs
Cottage pie left in saucepan - add cooked cubed potatoes and swede and any other veg that looks sorry for its self and portion that up, this is how i would do it using one saucepan meaning less washing too.. id add some water if needed and thicken with gravy to go futher too.Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

I'd calculate 50 grammes per person per serving.
Fried off mince with onions and then:
Mix with root veg and gravy for shepherd's pie.
Add to well-seasoned tomato sauce for pasta. Then add kidney beans/whatever beans for a chilli with rice or over baked spuds.
Raw, mix with breadcrumbs/stuffing mix and seasoning for meatballs. Either simmer those once fried off in gravy or tomato sauce of some description.
Mix with tomato sauce and layered in an oven-proof dish for pastitsio.
Stovies.
The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination and/or other available ingredients.0 -
I would get 2-3 meals from 450g mince, there are 2 adults and 1 child eating.
with 450g I get 3 spag bol or 1 cottage pie (plus 2 meals of cottage pie toasties) or 2 meatballs or 3 chilli...
with 900g I make a 9 and 6 portion lasagne (5 meals)We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Strangely, I just cooked that size of pack of mince last weekend, I got a total of 9 servings.
Day 1 - cooked all the mince with some chopped onion and had some with tatties and peas.
Day 2 - mince on a bread roll for lunch and with tattie and haggis for tea.
Day 3 - mince and haggis on toast for lunch, I then took half the mince that was left and made it into a chilli with some tinned toms and kidney beans and I added another (chunky chopped) onion, I had half for my tea with some pasta.
Day 4 - some of the remaining mince on a roll for lunch and the remaining chilli with chips for tea.
Day 5 - a spoon of mince mixed in with a tin of scotch broth soup for lunch and the remaining mince on tortillas with some leafy salad, cheese and mustard mayonaise.
ETA I should add, it was just me and I'm a guts, I like a big platefull
I would take from your menu that you are Scots, me too and it was the cold mince sandwiches that gave it away :rotfl::rotfl:, I havent had one for years but used to love them, thanks for reminding me.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

These two adults here and I buy a 500g pack of mince to make various mince recipes. These one I have called Million Mince, which is basically courgettes, carrots and mushrooms with tomatos puree and can of tomatoes. I would get about about 5 portions out of this to serve with Spagetti or on top of jacket spud etc. It gives enough to put in a circle of spagetti. So if 800g with more veggies, I'd day 7 portions.
On the other hand, if I was to mix with potato to give a meat and potato pie, I'd get two pies out of that, if you imagine a pirex dish lid for the pie.0 -
I use 250gs and make 4 portions, I to eat and 3 to freeze.I use lentils to bulk it out.I make spagett ibolognaise, chilli , cottage pies and lasagna from 1kg. So 16 meals. Your 800 grms would workout at 12 meals.
Some times I also pinch a couple of tbs perportionand make an individual pie.Slimming World at target0 -

Aye, and the amount of haggis eaten during Burns week as well
eta at least I'm doing better than I thought with meat portions too 400g for me feeds a hollow legged adult and 2 older children with a portion left over without bulking out. Will need to try it with oats and see how it goes next time0 -
From an 800g pack I can get 3 meals for 4 adults
HM beefburgers bulked out with breadcrumbs and onion with 1/3
1/3 mince bulked out with veg and oats
1/3 either spag bol with tinned tomatoes and if I have them a mushroom or two sliced or chilli with tin toms, carrot and kidney beans
Basic mince with onion is so versatile you can add almost anything to it to make it go farther and most of the time nobody will even notice:DDebt free as of 29.10.2020 🎉😁

Grated carrots or red lentils snuck in will bulk out mince no end and if there's enough seasoning no-one will notice either.0

Ive tried it with both Rolled Oats and Oatmeal, much prefer the rolled oats as they do tend to break down more and get lost in the mince. I also like a bit of "Mealie Jimmy" with my mince but will give the haggis a goJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
