Re-reading above nothing much has changed except of course the new shopping mall http://www.unionsquareaberdeen.com/Website/home.aspx which has shops, cineworld and branded restaurants like yo sushi, tgif, zizi etc. has been added to the two existing malls. Union street is a bit sad and run down though.
I'd recommend the cafe here as something different, it has a glass floor over the original cellar which your 4 year old might enjoy and it's dark and atmospheric http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/arts/gm/art_provostskene.asp0 -

You could visit the Moscow State Circus which is in Aberdeen http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/xev_EventDetail.asp?id=2178"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks guys, we've had our wee weekend in Aberdeen. It was good, DD loved Codona's and the science centre (I wasn't so fussy for either). I think we might visit the swimming pool at Stonhaven another time though.I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters0
