    So don't have a locker.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • If you do not want a locker, and you do not work in an environment where it is sensibly needed (laboratories etc.) then just say you do not want a locker. TBH £5 is nothing in the grand scheme of things and is worth it to protect your belongings.

Are you sure it is not a £5 deposit? That would make sense.

padlocks are less than a pound, just have employees supply their own sounds the most sensible option.

    1. OP did not lose any key
    2. OP says a charge is being made. Even if it is a deposit, it is his money he does not have the use of.
    3. OP requires no repairs

Employer can be criticised for penalizing OP, who has not been stupid, lazy or selfish for the shortcomings of others.

    What's the solution then?

The solutions is that the OP does not rely on his company to look after his personal possessions.

Some employees have been stupid, lazy and selfish, that doesn't mean that all of them are and that they should all be charged for this.

How do you figure we differentiate between those that have been stupid and lazy, those that may be stupid and lazy, and those who will never be stupid and lazy.

Maybe we could charge different amounts based on how stupid and lazy people are. 'Oh, you're only a little bit lazy - £3 to you'

  • Blimey in 1983 I had to pay a non refundable £2 for a locker key at SCHOOL! (State school, not private)
In the grand scheme of things £5 isn't really much is it?

My DD's school charged £5 deposit for Locker keys (compulsory).
Yes it was returned when you returned the key.
