To be honest I buy very little chicken breasts because I think they're very expensive for how much you get and I won't buy the cheaper imported chicken.
I tend to either use chicken thigh meat or turkey breast/thigh meat. Personally I prefer the thigh meat in currys / pies etc and it is alot cheaper.
There is a farmers market near me once a month and there is a stall there that does turkey and chicken. 1/2 kg (1lb) chopped turkey leg meat is approx £2. Turkey mince is also great value and makes great burgers. I don't think its organic but it is certainly higher welfare and its also very local to me.

I agree with you about chicken thigh meat. I think it's sooo much tastier than breast meat in certain dishes. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Today, all my local Morrisons chicken breast was light brown to dark brown in colour. (£4.50 4 pack, £4 pack, value etc.) Not pink at all!!!
I avoided, bought turkey steaks instead.
Why do you think it all looked iffy?? Dates were 23rd/24th Aug.

If you look at the packaging, even Waitrose and M&S put water in their chicken. I bough a leg of pork from Waitrose and it shrunk to half the size when I cooked it!0

May I be smug and recommend quorn chicken pieces?!
Nope... thought not!
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0 -
Did it say she was buying the frozen chicken and mince? I think I remember Iceland's fresh meats were a fairly decent price from what I could tell by a quick glance. Don't know the details though so have no idea for sure if they are much cheaper than other places.
I'm not keen on Quorn, or any other meat substitutes I've tried so far.0
