1.1.07 What DFW/MSE thing have you done/will you do today

Happy New Year everyone!

Remembering that one small thing each day makes a big difference at the end of the year, let us know what DFW/MSE thing you have done or intend doing today - however small!

For me, I have just put something on Ebay for the first time! I hope to put some more bits on during the course of the day.

Also, trying to make the cat food last another day (for the cat, not for me, obviously) so that I don't have to go to the shop, therefore giving me my 4th NSD in a row!!

  • Great thread to keep us on track as becoming Debt Free isn't just about not spending money.

So to start off the new year I have just applied for a Smile bank account via R points (worth 1000 points). It suits my budgeting process to have 3 bank accounts, one of which is First Direct and although I won't have to pay charges because I have a savings account and a credit card (nil balance) with them I would like to close the account and the credit card to register my protest at the imposition of charges.

I tried to change my BT call package - the bill arrived on Sat but I only read it today and am rather annoyed that the special offer expired on 31.12.06. There is no answer to the number on the flyer and website so I will try tomorrow and see if I can persuade them that the offer should still apply to me (bill is dated 28 Dec so not much time to respond).

I received notification from Paypal of my first payment from Quidco - a bonus for some of my Christmas shopping and a couple of items I bought for work :D

Aiming for a NSD as will be tidying up and relaxing prior to return to work tomorrow.

Happy New Year to all fellow DFW - maybe we can pay off £2million in 2007

    Hi Hypno and others

Today I posted my SOA and got some useful advice. I had a play with the Snowball Calculator, which was less scarey than I thought. Then best of all I showed it to my OH and he was visibly impressed. He hasn't had the full lightbulb yet but he's definitely heading in the right direction at last.

Now settling down to do a few hours work so I can send an invoice tomorrow.

    Good luck all

Glad things are getting sorted. Now, stay focused, do one thing each day and by the end of the year you will really have something to show for it in a positive manner.

Remember to come on these boards often to keep you on track. It has made the world of difference to me.

  • Happy New Year to everyone!

Late yesterday afternoon I finally, after much persuasion from a friend, signed up to really cheap (and free to UK landlines) telephone calls. Had a lovely long chat to South Africa last night for only 2p per minute.

Very easy to get started, just sign up online -then after confirmation email received (came back within 20mins) you can dial the number you want with the prefix 18185. It announces what it is going to cost you as well - and for all calls to UK landlines it is 0p perminute  Also, for those dreaded 0870 calls to customer services when you hang on, and on - the maximum for peak periods is 6p and cheapest is 2pm for off peak. USA is 0.5p per min.

Not sure if there is anything better out there but it seems pretty good. And apparently businesses can sign up as well.

I have done my daily Quidco searches, and earned about 20p. This afternoon I shall list a minimum of five items on Amazon. Aiming for another NDS too, will be the third in a row!

Am finally signing up with Quidco(I know,I know!), making loads of soup from leftover veggies and going to register with freecycle.

I have put clothes to dry on a clothes rack instead of tumble dryer. Also washed on the quick cycle - saves time and sure they are just as clean.
  • Due to being immensly drunk last night, I stayed in bed until 3:30pm thus saving money by not going out for the hair of the dog!

    Happy New Year everybody

Today hasn't been a no spend day for me, but it has been a 'no unbudgetted spend' day - just paid a couple of bills over the phone, but haven't spent anything else.

I cashed out my rPoints into my savings account today, and last night I signed up for a Citibank account via quidco. Once that comes through it will all go towards paying off one of the smaller debts.
