Bankruptcy - IPA/IPO - considering quitting my job!

Hi
I think you need to take a step back and have a look from a different perspective
You do a job you don't hate
You have a decent wage
You own your home (partly as it's a mortgage)
You have a gambling habit (I used to spend 80% of my take home pay on fruit machines), only you can deal with it- do you want a holiday more than to gamble
I'm going to be naughty here, but you could tell your creditors you have less income and want to extend the DMP by 12-24 months.
This will allow you breathing space
You could take on the management yourself- pay the amount you consider, remember there is a flaw in the creditors ammunition- they don't have a legal right to see your bank accounts or pay slips. They have to see it if you have a court order stating this
What i'm saying is take control- pay your debt, but on your terms
I bought a personal number (070...) to give to my creditors, this stops them hassling me as I can choose to divert the calls to my mobile (or not), I also get some gratification that they are paying 50p-70p per minute to talk to me :rotfl:0 -
to me i think you need to get a holdont he gambling first before you make any drastic decisions. What would happen or how would you feel/manage if you went bankrupt gave up your job etc etc and found that you still havent sorted the gambling so ended up no better off. Take one step at a time and dont rush. I was lucky as i didnt suffer from an addiction but did spend almost 4 years on a DMP before going bankrupt, i was/am in a secure job with good pay like you and although its hard as ive got an IPA i can now see light at the end of the tunnel.
Get some help and support first and try to take one step at a time. Each positive step towards sorting it out will make you feel better and help with your issues.0
