Freezing interest and making payments to barclays/mercers

I am currently not working having had my 2nd baby and I'm training to be a child minder. In the mean time my only income is normal child benefit and 40 a week tax credits which I use for food shopping and baby things.
My OH works full time and pays all our bills for our house (private rented) and car etc. We just about manage month to month. And once I'm a registered child minder I know we'll be fine.
I have 4 credit cards, 2 Egg which are frozen and I pay a fixed amount of 21 pound of each they have a balance of about 300 each now down from 600 each. I have a capital one card which I pay 12 pound off a month and the balance is 150, the credit card is within limits and fully functioning though I cut it up. And I have a barclay card with over £2000 owing on it and I have been ignoring it and all letters as while we were going through a rough time I was paying it and now they want a payment of about 300 to bring it up to date and it would take a payment of another 300 or so to bring it within its limit. I've just been woken up to all of this by someone knocking my door asking to put me on the phone to mercers or they'll take further action and I realise I need to do something not just ignore my silly debt.
How can I now get them to freeze the interest and accept a fixed payment of £20 a month (which is what I can now afford since I've paid off my Next account and cancelled it).
I know I was so stupid to ignore it all and I'd really like to get everything back on track. I never want another debt in my life!!
Thank you so much for any help.

Hi Kelly,
They don't have to reduce/freeze the interest, but it's worth asking them to. I'd contact them in writing though and explain that you can afford £20 per month, not what they try to bully you into.If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Thank you do you know an address to write to them at all I can't find one online. I hope they freeze the interest atleast until I've cleared the Egg debt then I can pay them 75 a month.Baby Boy B 30/08/2008 Baby Girl B 16/12/2010
