Which part of London are we talking about? If it's the City then only 5% less is good I think.

Are you relocating for the job, or moving to Manchester anyway?

I loved Manchester but didn't find it any cheaper than London btw, in fact I ended up rtning as the work prospects in my specialist field were better in the south.

Compare a HO PM in London with a HO PM in Manchester and you are then getting closer to a like for like comparison but all the tools I have seen dont go into anywhere near that level of detail and when the sample sizes get that small its statistical relevance will be tiny

I agree. Some of the comparison tools out there would be using sample sizes of <10 if I even use a keyword filter along with region. Useless!

Relocating anyway. My rent will be cheaper thanks to being in a larger houseshare, but as far as I can see all my other main costs (bills, transport, food) will be staying the same or going up. Job prospects for my field are better in the south too, but I've got other reasons for moving.

Zone 1, but not the Square Mile.

Good luck with it, money's not everything but it certainly helps when life decides to go off-track!

In Brighton I would typically earn 60% of what I'd earn in London on the same job, so I really think it depends, I'm not sure you can categorically put a percentage on it.

I think you need to calculate your living costs, then determine whether you're happy with the offer. But I'd say 10% less outside of London was very usual - if not 15-20% less. Depends how much you're earning in the first place, of course, too.

    Good luck! :)

I worked for a very large financial organisation that had people doing the same job in various locations including London. The salary scales in London were around 25% higher than anywhere else and they then got London weighting on top of that. I always felt the difference was too high but it wasn't enought to make me ask for a transfer to London .
