Has anyone stayed in Sligo that can recommend a town centre accomodation for family with young kids?
I thought a trip to 'the caves' in Fermanagh would be fun but too far to go and travel back in one day.
I thought town centre accomodation so everything was in walking distance - restaurant etc.
I shall take advice from the tourist board before hand, but thought I would ask here

would recommend a meal at Hargadons http://www.hargadons.com/bar-restaurant/info_7.html bar on O'Connell street in Sligo. I've only eaten lunch there, but it is SO yummy i would imagine the dinner menu is just as good. They use mostly locally sourced produce and it's just so darned tasty0

Having recently been to NI I would highly recommend that you take your driving license to make the most of your time there. The public transport situation isn't great!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Never stayed in Sligo, cos our Fermanagh house is only an hour away from there, but you simply have to eat at Bistro Bianconi - salads are amazing, pasta is gorgeous and pizza is out of this world - It is probably the thing I miss most about not living in Fermanagh at the minute.
Can also recommend a visit to the Caves, they are amazing and if the weather stays dry, hopefully the boat will be onDJWW - cos we won't let it!0 -

Yes but Fermanagh is in NI. It's much easier to see more of Ireland outside the cities with your own transport.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Maybe I should have made my request more clear to some.
I shall DRIVE (been driving for many yrs VfM4meplse!!)...from NI to the caves in Fermanagh...as it is along way I thought it would be nice to stay somewhere down that way..and having looked at the map Sligo...(and yes I know it is in Eire VfM4meplse)...seems not that far away. But I am open to ideas as to where to stay having had a day at Fermanagh caves. The trip is with younger kids so accomodation is necessary otherwise I would drive up and down. And I thought it would have been nice to stay somewhere, maybe in the city centre and walk about a choose a restaurant....
Thanks for the suggestions so far
Please only helpful suggestions.....:beer:0 -
A friend recently stayed in the Belmore Court in Enniskillen, said it was lovely and well within walking distance of the town, opposite tesco's and close to McDonalds if that is your thing.
But that is heading back into Enniskillen from the caves and not down towards Sligo, which is a lovely wee town!DJWW - cos we won't let it!0 -
It is only a 45minute drive from the caves to Sligo town:j I do it quite often cause I love shopping in Sligo & live 5 mins from caves:beer:0
