Would a charity like the PDSA be able to help with the cat then? (Please do consider whether the cat actually benefits from it's medical treatment...)

I'm guessing your mortgage is less than rents for a similiar property locally? If so then of course you are better off staying put.

Have a look at the grocery challenge and the old style boards for help with cutting the cost of groceries. I've been making elderflower champagne which is lovely and even my boyfriend, who doesn't like white wine, is drinking it it's so nice - and he has nothing much else.
Lidl and Aldi can have good prices for drink, but unfortunately that is one of the things you can do without. Mind you, some basic food and a bottle of wine might be cheaper than what you are currently spending.

How handy is your OH? Fitting new glass to windows isn't too tricky if you are practical and might cheer you both up and give you a sense of acheivement.

awwww loobeyloop, I am sorry that ur situation is hard atm, no offence to whoever suggested having ur cat put down, but that is a horrible thought! :( I would never be able to do that just to save money. there are other ways to save though so don't worry. :) a lot of people have suggested the old style board, i LOVE this board, if u search old style or workhouse in the forum search tool at the top you will find them. there is alot of friendly advice about growing ur won veg and making do with things, very creative :) recipes galore too, so maybe that will help with ur food shop? other things that may be helpful, you could see if ur entitled to working tax credits just to give you a bit of a boost, ummm...also the NSD challenge board is really motivating and helpful. :) i can't think of anything else atm, but i think the best help on this website is the support from everyone else, so well done for speaking up about ur problems. :)

Thank you all so much for your tips, will get the old man to write all his in/out goings and put a joint soa on here later, I can't tell you how it has made me feel better just putting this on here, I do feel stupid for getting myself in this state, but I know I'm not the only one, and there are people out there far worse off.
Pee, thanks didn't think of the pdsa, will look into it. Yes mortgage is less than renting, we couldn't sell my bf managed to get a charging order on our property (long story but he was a car dealer got finance on a car a friend was selling, buyer stopped paying it went to court and judge obviously didn't like car dealers so we ended up with 23k charge that is gaining interest :() Oooh I made elderflower champagne once, think the flowers were a little over ripe, it was ok, but very perfumey and not very alcoholic lol!! It won't do me any harm not to drink any more, it's going to be difficult and going to get bored lol
Suzi, thank you! Will defo take a look on the old style boards, I have a freezer full of stuff so we'll live off that, as chief cook and bottle washer, I can see some very strange concoctions coming up, bet beggars can't be choosers can they? I must admit, as a retro chick, I am quite excited at living like they did in the 2nd world war, although I'm sure the novelty will wear off! How do you keep motivated and positive? And what do you do to relieve the bordem (clean answers only ;)) Thank you all! x

    I'm glad it's only 14k as opposed to 40k - that's 26k off the debt already!! :)
Um - can you clear the Natwest card if you only owe 16 pounds? and see if they will offer you any balance transfer deals?
I think you're going to have to deafult on your minimum payments and try and arranage payments plans to be honest but maybe if you can clear the Natwest the first month - that's one less creditor at least and you have a chance they may offer you a deal.

Your assets - you've put you have £170 in cash and your house is only worth £110? Surely the house at least should be £110000 which would change your figures dramatically!

Hi all, this is my joint SOA with my partner, and I've hopefully corrected the mistakes of the last one, He thinks the property is worth more than I thought (but then I do have a dim view of my house!! I have recently given up my gym membership and my fat club:eek: gutted and getting fatter by the day :( As i've said before the 3rd car is my partners sporty thing, he won't part with it no matter what....I've tried....
Please be gentle with me :o Thanks in anticipation

    My thoughts:

1 - get the groceries bill down - use up everything in freezer, cupboard & fridge. Some 'basic' brands are fine - there's plenty of info on the forums elsewhere on here :) Cut your sky subscriptions to zero asap. The free channels are fine.

2- how about trading in the estate car for a cheap to run moped/scooter which you could both use? that way you'd be retaining one car but also have some flexibility for everyday use.

3 - you & your OH fix an evening/day where you get *all* your bills out, get the coffee/tea on & work through exactly what is owed to where, & what you have as assets.

4 - simplify your life, it's cheaper (plus people will buy all sorts of stuff from you after you've cleared out!) Make the MSE way a kind of challenge, a game. Get your son on board as he is a young man and he may have some good ideas.

5 - once you've done step 3 then get onto CCCS or a debt charity via CAB & arrange some kind of DMP. Cut up the cards & good luck!
