Decided to move my mortgage from Nationwide to HSBC, completed the application beginning of July, had all my documents sent back on July 7th and since that date silence
Decided to ring up today to see where it was ata and was told its with the underwriters you may get a call this week
i am borrowing 53k on a house valued at 100k, and earn 29k with one debt only, 300 per month with less than 3 years on it
why does it take so long?

I would suggest that the application may be declined, as it just shouldnt take this long, for eg, put a Woolwich mortgage online on friday, offered today. Bingo. I would have thought the rate you are going for is similar to what the Wooly are offering.I am a Mortgage Advisor. By the time they decide I may have already paid of my existing mortgage :-)
Struggling to think of any reasons why it may be declined, but to be honest if they do i will just go back to my current provider and sort another fixed rate out0 -
Hmmm... we've just remortgaged (inc extra borrowing) with HSBC and it was all turned around really quickly, I think in 3-4 weeks from the initial appointment at the brance to mortgage application, survey and completion. Computer just said 'yes' as far as i know
I can imagine that they are very busy with applications having such good deals on the market.0 -
