I think it's a good idea to defer for a year. If you spend this year saving hard and getting relevant experience maybe through some voluntary work I'd bet your parents will see how motivated you are and will be prepared to help support you through. They probably just need you to prove to them that you will follow it through and make a real success of the course. Have you looked at employment possibilities after doing this course? Unfortunately there are very few opportunities to work with animals and they're usually very badly paid.
I wouldn't make any financial sacrifices to do something like this.0
