using a different job centre

Options
Hi there, could not find the correct place to post this as there wasn't a catogory that it fitted but here goes.

I am going to ring the job centre to claim JSA tomorrow however i live in an area in Norfolk which is about 4 miles from the job centre, this is not a problem but i would much rather sign at another job centre in a town about 7 miles away, the problem is this job centre come under the next county (Suffolk)

What i am asking is, do you have to use the job centre that mathces your post code (county wise) or can i use this preferred job centre only a few miles further but in another county??

Any help greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

    You could try ringing the benefit rnquiry line, they might know if you can claim in another county.

    If l recall correctly you can sign at any office you wish, however there would be no financial assistance in relation to travelling costs to sign on or attend appointments etc.

    You may also be able to do 'Postal Signing' if you reside a certain distance away.
  • Thank you to both of you for your fast replies.

    Sounds like i may just be able to.

    I shall enquire further on the phone tomorrow and let you know how i get on if just to help anyone who encounters a similar problem in the future.

    Thanks again both of you.

    Kind regards

    When I worked for the DWP your intial application had to be made at the office that dealt with your post code. It may of course have changed since I left but I doubt it. I think you also have to phone for an intial appointment where they will take most of your details over the phone.
