  • Text speak is fine if you are using a mobile phone. This is a forum for adults who should know the basics of English. No one is worried about a space or a comma or even misspelling we only ask that people write so we can understand clearly what is being said.

Try and be sensible with your replies.

sorry if i offended people with my text speak.i didn't know there were certain restrictions on helping to answer questions. There are people who might not be as educated or clever as others, there might also be people who find it difficult to type read or write due to illness or any personal reason.
I suppose such people are excluded from this forum- if little things like this matter so much no wonder the world is in such a state.I was only trying to help.

I appreciate your point and was not trying to offend. I was shocked at the tone, and still find the final comment rather patronising.
It is idealistic to assume that all adults are able/capable of writing at the level you are suggesting, and sadly it is not always the case. My brother-in-law is dyslexic and still learning to write now after the education system failed him as a child, I would like to think he had as much right to MSE as anyone else. I am very sure Martin would not wish him to be excluded from MSE as a result of his literacy.
You should also be aware that some exam boards now accept textspeak, as it is so prevalent in modern society.
To end this pointless debate, I will add that my post was not 'insensible' but if you post comments that are unnecessary put-downs and nothing to do with the original post you should expect people to notice and comment.

Have a nice day and enjoy your moneysaving:confused:

Don't apologise. This is a forum, feel free to discuss whatever you like however you like. The replies about your choice of type stink of snobbishness and are downright disgraceful.

More so considering both replies complaining of your choice of typing come from 2 new members, anything for the post count eh folks. tbird3 and FannyHill, you should both feel ashamed. Your condescending attitudes are not the way to make friends.

sonee2405 you carry on as you are, as long as you are understood then it shouldn't become a problem for others, well at least not the majority of us!!

Text talk is fine for me btw. Its always the case on forums like these people trying to help then others constantly picking fault.
No need for it really when there has been nobody hurt and no crime committed. Is there a spellcheck? hate to think I got something wrong

Abbreviations and TLAs etc are fine, however, I do find it hard to read text speak, and no, I am not ashamed of myself. I did not foulmouth or flame the person, I made a comment that it was not the Queens english. You appear to be under the misnomer that I am slating the person, don't you? read it again:
Nice text speak. Anything wrong with the Queens english, or were you replying via mobile phone?
And CelticFC- I don't give 2 hoots about post count, unlike you. I'm not on here to make friends, I'm on here to browse- I make friends in the real world. You should try it sometime.

has anyone had a conversation with the queen? i reckon she may even talk in slang ;)
And is the queen's english a dialect or a language? would it not differ in diff sitiations?
She may well be formal for public speaking/speaches but i doubt she says
"my royal subjects I would very much appreciate if you would pass me the salt" at the dinner table!!
