Any South Africans? Past and/or current?

My OH was born in South Africa when his parents were both working over there. They moved back when he was ten (1977!!)
We are going to stay with them next week and as it has been a tramatic year for FIL (health wise) we would like to cook something special for them on a SA theme.
FIL isnt able to have anything too spicy. Always have Biltong and Boerewors from a local shop with us anyway.
Any idea would be great and money saving if poss!
thanks
MagsyB

me! I grew up in Zims and Pietermartzburg (Natal). We came back to the UK in 1993 after I had finished Matric (6th form). How about making Melk tert or my absolute favourite koeksusters? All the main meals I remember are spicy so I can't help there sorry.

How about Babotie? Tasty, easy to make, not spicy:

    Bobotie
    Serves 6

    1kg mince
    1 onion chopped
    ½ cup seedless raisons
    ½ cup slivered almonds
    1 tbsp apricot jam
    1 tbsp chutney
    Slice of bread, crumbled
    2 tsp oil
    2tsp lemon juice
    1 tsp turmeric
    ½ tsp salt

    3 eggs
    250ml milk
    2 bay leaves

    Preheat oven to 180C

Mix everything together except the eggs, milk and bay leaves
Press into an oven proof dish
Beat the eggs, then mix the eggs and milk together and pour over the meat

    Decorate with bay leaves

    Cook for 1 hour
Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate! :)
