Should I take the job?

2

Comments

  • A couple of ex-employees have already done the same. Other customers obviously, they worked for us and moved over when the customer wanted them to work for them.

I know the salary is the same, but for the work I do at the moment, I am underpaid for the level of job I do. The salary doing accounts will actually be more than the going rate, plus extra benefits.

As I have said before, I know the company and I know they are wanting to take me on despite the fact I may be rusty on some parts of the accounts (I did mention this to them and they said 'we understand, and you can easily learn').

I have requested an email from him stating the job spec and the salary/benefits as it is all verbal at the moment.
  • Hopefully, he is sending me the full job spec and benefits soon (just received a text from him) so I can weigh up the pros/cons..

At the moment I am 70% in favour of the new job and 30% staying where I am...

If I can get the car, I could then sell my car and that money (around £3,000) will pay for some debts I have and I can then start a new...

Don't underestimate how useful flexi time could be for you as a parent.

DH has been headhunted for the last few jobs; it's always flattering even if you don't take it.

    Good luck.

Have you been looking to change employers before you were approached by the customer? Have you considered that the way they engage with you, and you them, as a customer will be very different from the rules of engagement in an employer/employee situation. Why are they so desparate to poach you and are offering to buy you a car, allow flexitime and a bonus. Why haven't they been able to promote an employee into the post - does this indicate they are unwilling to grow their staff into promotion and expect every employee to be happy in their own well worn rut.
Think about how the workload in your current job has changed. There's no guarantee that the same thing, and worse, won't happen at a new job. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence, and employers like to tempt people by painting themselves in the best possible light.
TBH in your shoes I'd be wondering why all the bribes on top of a wage and why the guaranteed bonus of £1k and not an extra £1k in annual salary.

The reason (as far as I can see), is that over the last 10 years whenever they have had a problem I have sorted it out for them on the first call. Their old accounts staff would not speak to anyone else but me to sort their issues out, so they know that I 'know my stuff'.

And because I know their system like the back of my hand, there will not be any issue of training up a new member of staff as I probably know more about their system than they do currently... which will save them money in the long run.

And, yes, I have been thinking of getting another job for over 2 years since my current company was bought out.

I would say go for it I got headhunted and I have not regretted it. It makes perfect sense them wanting you so they dont have to train someone else etc. I came from the public to the private sector and things are done differently when it comes to recruitment so I dont see anything underhand in them approaching you. Good luck what ever you decide.

  • Got the email and even the pension is the same as I get now. Still favouring the new job at the moment. Spoke to family and friends and they all say, take the new job. The only one holding back is me at the moment !!!!

This could be the break I need. With the running costs of the car covered I will be coming home with around £150 extra per month than I do now.. (I know about P11d and things so I know I will have to pay for this benefit)..

I am now 90% new job and 10% stay where I am... may arrange to meet them again at weekend to go through some more details before I decide fully.

Thanks everyone so far for helping me go through all the options. Never been in job for 10 years before, I usually move on after 2!!
  • Hi All,
I have decided to take the new job. they have increased the salary by another £1k and I feel I am ready to move on...
Now dreading handing my notice in to my current employer as I know they will not be happy. The job I do now takes a lot of training and even after 10 years I am still training on some products....

Good luck. I hope you have the job offer in writing on company headed paper via snail mail, with the salary, bonuses and other perks clearly specified. You can then formally accept the offer in writing via snail mail before you resign your current job.
If not - ask for it, to demonstrate you like things done properly - something any employer should welcome with open arms.

  • I will make sure I get it all in writing via the old fashioned snail mail... never thought of that as I thought the email would suffice...
