Hi all, I'm really tempted by the fitness programme P90X. I can see there is a lot of hype surrounding it and want to see for myself if its any good.
One thing which puts me off somewhat is the price, its over 100 quid for the DVDs. Thats without the cost of having any of the right equipment and if I were to take it seriously and buy the energy bars and protein, I'm looking at spending quite a lot of dosh!
I am prepared to fork out if it will get me to where I want to be fitness wise, however I wondered if MSE'ers had any suggestions on how to do P90X as cheaply (but as accurately) as possible.
Thanks for your help!

we have got p90x and insanity, and if you press play it does work.
recommended kit: chin up bar and some weights. if your continuous about the price i would have a look on ebay sometimes the usa ebay has the discs.
i prefere insanity as there is no equipment at all!
i wouldn't bother with any of there shakes etc - can get Holland and barrat stuff for half the price0 -
cool. i will google insanity. i was thinking that about the shakes and stuff, will have to check out Holland and Barratt too0

Hi, I'm a P90Xer and here's my advice on how to do it as cheaply as possible:
Equipment:
1) For the cheapest possible option, get resistance bands (instead of weights) and a door anchor - this will allow you to use the bands as both weights AND a pullup device. You can find quite cheap options on Amazon.
(If you do want a pull-up bar, get the JML pull-up bar or on Amazon you'll see that there is a pull-up bar which looks identical to the official P90X one, but is half the price.)
2)Don't bother with a yoga block - you can use something else from round the house.
Nutrition:
Don't bother with protein bars - they are handy but expensive.
All you really need is a 250ml glass of supermarket chocolate milk as a recovery drink after working out.
A cheap multivitamin is a good idea - supermarket own brand will do fine. If you can stretch to whey protein, get it from Holland and Barret only when it's on BOGOF or half price (happens regularly), or alternatively get Impact Whey from the website myprotein com. Those two are the best tasting and cheapest (but avoid the H&B banana flavour).
Another tip, either workout with a mate and share the cost of P90X, or because of the way it is structured it's actually possible i think to share the dvds with a friend if you start on different days. Ie: when you need a certain DVD, he/she will need a different one etc. So you can share the cost between you even without working out together.
If you go to the website P90XUkUsers there are lots of UK P90Xers on there giving advice, talking about the programme etc.
Good luck, hope you go for it - P90X is the 3rd best thing I've ever done in my life0 -
Thanks so much for your advice. What was the 1st and 2nd out of interest?0

Right heres what I have ordered from Amazon:
- £35 -I ordered the discs from Amazon - I found them for (P90X Extreme Home Fitness Workout Program - 13 DVDs, Nutrition Guide, Exercise Planner) - I hope im not missing anything from the "official" website discs - lets wait and see...
- £20 - JML Iron bar
- £14 Resistance bands
- £6 door anchor
- £15 for Whey Protein - Chocolate - for 908g powder - is this a good deal - is this the correct one?
Im spending just over £100 for everything - i better bloody do this now!!
Two questions - what else do I need to order? - I will buy some multi vitamins from my local shop, now for my silly question - is the whey protein i ordered my "recovery drink" or do I need to by chocolate milkshake like you said? Cant I just drink milk (semi-skimmed??) Also if its not the "recovery" drink - when do I drink the whey protein?
grateful for your thoughts!

I've got 2 more days to complete Insanity Round 2. It's insane but I love it :j:j:j
I will now take a break from Insanity and will start TurboFire (90 days programme). It also looks good :jSECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

I started it a few weeks ago and i done the first two weeks. If you can stick to it im sure it would be great value compared to joining a gym.0
