The Halifax are a little short on funds so they have decided to sell my overdraft debt to First credit and I wanted to know if anyone is dealing with them at the moment and what are they like?

Hi boogiemaster,
I've had no dealings with them, but I find it's better to treat all dcas like snakes and then you can be pleasantly surprised if they don't try to bite. I've no doubt it'll be the usual bullying tactics and threats just up to, but not including the point of death if you don't pay them immediately! Stick to your guns and don't let them agree to pay more than you can afford.
Good luck

I've spoken to them before. They did try the "you need to pay this much a month" and I just went "haha, yeah, good luck- you can have this much a month or nothing at all"...they accepted my offer

See they were nice to me! The debt was only for £68.90 but it was from a penalty train fare that I thought had been paid so was passed on. But they accepted that I was pregnant and have just said try to pay it off in 3 months. I've paid half so far. I know its not a debt thats on my credit file but meh I don't know where one stands with ones that arent!Money money money.

I was happy with a basic cash card but the Halifax kept nagging us to open a currant account as our income support was over a thousand pounds.
So we opened a currant account and was given an overdraft and then three grand in bank charges forced us to move to another bank.
Will look forward to their calls and thanks

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm on income support at the moment so they will just get a pound as that is all i can afford as i'm paying my last debts off and will be debt free next October but then this comes along?
So they will have to wait until then before i can start paying them decent money to get rid of it.
I just wanted to know if they were just all threats?I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
I've been ignoring them for months. I've had everything from huge percentages off my "debt" to "we're looking for the above named person, please call"...

Hi there
I have had a debt with First Credit for 6 years. It was originally a credit card debt which has been sold on to them. They are quite reasonable if they are kept informed of your latest circumstances and you keep up the repayments you say you are going to. If this doesn't happen they will sell the debt on again to Connaught Collections (or maybe a similar agency). Every time the debt is sold on it diminishes so you are in a position to negotiate a 'full and final settlement' which means you may be able to settle your original debt of, say, £10,000 for £3,000 as the collection agencies pay less and less for it as it goes down the line.
My problem is I never have enough saved to settle at a discounted price as I use all my income to keep up with minimum debt repayments.
They are ok to deal with but once I had an over enthusiastic 1st Credit guy threatening me with all sorts if I didn't settle! As I pointed out to him I was one of their best customers as I paid regularly and on time.
I don't think you need worry - and if it goes to Connaught Collections I have a friend who has been dealing with them for years - like most of these companies they like regular payments but they seem to be able to negotiate a debt down.
Be aware they monitor your credit activity on a regular basis - if you are suddenly paying off a debt faster than you did before they may be in touch for their slice of the pie!
