Debt assigned/owned by debt collector?

I have a loan with Black Horse which due to a change of circumstances forced me to change my monthly payments to £1 which have been accepted for a while (I pay by standing order), recently though I received a letter from Hillesden Securities (trading as dlc) 'giving me notice' that the debt is now assigned to them and that this means that Black Horse Ltd no longer own my account, dlc do, is this true or should I have had notice from Black Horse? Dlc are continually phoning and harrassing me, when my OH answered the phone once, they threatened court action, I'm not sure where I stand or what to do about this.

You should contact Blackhorse to make sure dlc now own the debt, although it's very likely they do. Like all debt collectors they will threaten just about everything, but usually do very little in order to bully people into paying more than they can afford. Continue to pay what you can and if they do decide take you to court, then there will be a maximum amount of money you have to pay based on your circumstances. Apparently there has been an increase in dcas taking debtors to court, but I wouldn't worry as they can't get blood out of a stone.

    Good luck

If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Thanks Red that seems like sound advice. I've had dealings with other debt companies but I don't recall them stating they now own the debt and the reason I'm not sure dlc really do, is at the beggining of the letter it states Client: Black Horse Ltd, then the first paragraph 'assingned to Hillesden Securities Ltd' (trading as dlc), then the third paragraph 'your account is owned by dlc'.
I shall write to Black Horse and maybe to dlc requesting proof.
