Not sure if I've posted this in the correct place, so apologies in advance if I have.
I have just cancelled my Sky subscription. It will end on Jan 29th. The chap said that I will continue to receive freeview, until Sky change the viewing card. Will I be able to get a new viewing card from somewhere once Sky change theirs??
I'm not really clued up about these things

Freeview is nothing to do with BSkyB - he means you will get the free to air/view channels (Sorry to be pedantic)
Lots of helpful info here

So basically I won't need to purchase a viewing card to receive all free view channels including ch4/5?0

Your existing viewing card will enable you to recieve the FTV (Free to View) channels broadcast by satellite, including Channel 4 and five. At some point in the future Sky may well change the cards and you will need a new one then.
(As ckerrd said, Freeview is nothing to do with satellite and is received through a conventional aerial and a suitably equipped TV or separate set top box rather than via satellite and a dish)0 -

Your current viewing card will turn into a FTV card (FreeSatFromSky card), required for Ch4, Five, Five Life, Five US and Sky Three, you will receive the many FTA channels also as these are FTA and therefore require no viewing card.
Sky Digital has been going since 1 Oct 1998 and they have only issued 2 different revision viewing cards in all this time. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Yeah, your box will continue to work fine, full EPG, all updates and all the free channels will be there.
You can subscribe again any time, and there will only be a minimum period of one month, they often send out deals to get you to come back.
I'm currently using my Sky Digital box for just the FTA/FTV channels, which I do from time to time, when I can no longer get excellent offers on the subs.
I do have free cable TV, just the starter package, managed to get that free for another 12 months, so that covers a few more channels. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Never had cable tv. Got Sky installed last yr, and the 12 month contract has expired so I'm free to leave. I've asked them for cancelation in writing, which they rekon I'll receive in the next few days.0

Satellite is better than cable, I just have cable TV as it was free with my broadband, and managed to get them to keep me on the same offer for another 12 months.
Sky will send you a "Sorry you are leaving...." type letter, with the date your subscription will end.
Then a month or 3 later you may start to get "Come back to sky and get 6 months half price" type offers. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
