Hi
Subject to wife approval I am on the brink of buying a LCD TV.... obviously we want this to be wall mounted as is common these days.
In thinking about this a few more, I've thought of a few "challenges" - I am sure the responses coming back are going to involve chasing out grooves in my walls and plastering over cables, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Here they go
- What do we do about power connectivity and TV Aerial connectivity
- What about if we have a SKY/Freeview Box (cabling wise)
- What about connecting up to our DVD player etc....
The only way I can think of achieving the seamless clean look is plastering the cabling into the wall, but thats not very flexible and will be a pain if we ever move etc...
How do other people achieve this look?
Also, Ive heard anecdotal stuff that LCD's are better than Plasma's - can anyone tell me teh underlying wisdom behind this statement?

Correct. And if you are going to do it put in a cable conduit big enough to put exta cables in and Fill it with all possible cables from day one, even if you are not using them.
Otherwise you could look for some curved conduit that blends in to the wall. If you search it's been asked about a couple of times in the last few months. Not quite as nice, but a reasonable job with next to no effort.0 -
I would definately go for LCD over plasma, look at the way the leading manufacturers are going, plasma is OK for business users.
If you are going to install on a wall look at where the cables plug in, I have seen some awful installations with cables hanging out of the side, you have to hide the cables or "the wife will kill you". I am looking at my set up and you can't see the cables at all, took a bit of sorting out but it looks good now.
A good compromise is a glass stand with mounting brackets to hold the LCD, I saw one I really liked but it was a bit too wide for our space. I didn't want to wall mount it because the only place it would go was above where I wanted to install a fire ( it's not recommended to install above a working fire).0 -
I read in a magazine somewhere (I can't remember which mag now) about a company advertising their TV wall mounting service and they offered to do a good job of hiding all cables, etc. The examples they featured looked really good but I don't know how much they charge. Does anyone know who they are and whether its worth the money? The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0

I found these through google. Any experiences or reviews on them, please?

Check out your wall as it may be what is known as dot and dabbed. If this is the case you can run your cables in the cavity between the plasterboard and the breeze block. I managed to get a scart connector in the cavity, the power and ariel are a lot thinner so will be fine. Takes some work to fish the wires but saves a lot of hassle in plastering.0

instead of having the wires coming out of the top you can get connection panels so you plug the cables into the face plate at the back then plug the tv / dvd etc into the front of the face plate.
I didn't want the hassle of cutting a channel out so i just disguised them the best i could.
i ran the sky cables along the skirting board in trunking.0 -
at the end of the day the best solution is to trunk the cables up to the tv
the problem with faceplates is the deteriotaing quality from every new conection
but if you want real versatility buy a AV reciever with HDMI (this is the best quality connection for tvs) from somewhere like richer sounds
then just run one decent hdmi lead up the wall.
you can swap and change all your other players and boxes to your hearts content then and never worry about having to change cable if you upgrade somethingThe Optimist and the Pessimist
