Valuation instructed

Have recently submitted a mortgage application via my broker. Today got a text from the lender (Woolwich) advising they've instructed valuation.
I'm taking this to be a good thing. I assume lenders don't instruct valuation until they've looked at your application and deemed you are OK to lend to?
I have this niggle as I've asked them to carry out survey too and I'd hate to pay for that lot for the mortgage to be turned down for some other reason.
All help appreciated.

Valuation is tied into the mortgage process. The whole jigsaw needs to fall into place.
Don't stress yourself at this early stage. Plenty of hurdles to jump yet.0
