Calling all panasonic BM owners!

Hello all,

I am slowly converting my parents to the OS way, so much so that they've just purchased a BM (I don't even have one myself yet! grrrr!).

Anyway, they've successfully made white and brown bread but as a family mostly eat wholemeal and the recipe says they need vitamin C powder.

Could you all let me know where you normally buy yours from if at all as so far they've had no luck!

My poor dad called the local pharmacy and they told him they don't stock it because it's a baseline for heroine addicts or something!

Thanks in advance for any help! My dad's too scared to call anywhere else for fear of being branded some kind of weirdo! ha!

  • I've got a Panny BM and have NEVER used the Vit C powder and never had a problem with any loaf/dough made in it. :)

Holland and Barrett sell it, so do most health food stores, my chemist still sells it I think, some may choose not to of course. Boots sold it last time I checked but that was a while ago.
One day I might be more organised...........

I thought most people buy the Tesco pills and just crush them.

  • Never use them. And never used the milk powder either. Then I bought some to make yoghurt and DH added some to his usual loaf. I am off bread at the moment but I have it on the word of my husband and son that it tasted NO different.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

    ROFL @ that.

I tend to crush a few vit c tablets (even done vit c with selenium etc - very healthy loaf ;) ) and add that.
I couldn't be bothered last night and loaf was fine - though admitedly not quite as airy as when I do add it.
Tell them to add a few walnuts to their loaf - scrummy yummy (add in the raisin compartment and bake on bake-raisin setting)

My poor dad was mortified! :rotfl:
They've had a go without for now so they'll soon find out.

Thanks for the other bits of help and wisdom, they're having fun learning at least!

I get bog standard Vit C tablets and crush them. I think it is especially useful if you are using the rapid bake programme as it gives a lighter loaf.

Re milk powder, I stopped using that and haven't missed it at all.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I've never used vit c powder and only occasionally use crushed up vit c tablet and can't really say I noticed a big difference.

I don't use milk powder either but I do put in a bit of milk then make up the rest of the liquid with water (I use add and weigh scales to measure my ingedients into the pan)

And I don't use butter either - just 15g oil

  • Hi,

Just to add to everyone elses answers- I use a ready mix from a ebay bread/baking stuff seller (think the mix is called bread improver). The bread improver was recommended by several ppl that also use bread machines a lot. It has the vit c powder, salt and milk powder already mixed in the right proportions so just include a bit of that (instructions for amount came with it) along with the water/flour/yeast. Much easier than faffing about with vit c tablets and milk powder I find!!

I think my bag of improver was about £3 and I havn't finished it yet despite buying months ago!!
