Help!! How do you get black pen marks off denim??

Just bought the nicest denim dress (last one of that size in stock) and got £10 off because it has a massive mark on the front where it looks like someone exploded a black biro on it. Doesn't look like marker so am pretty sure it's biro. Is there any way I can get this off? I know scrubbing it doesn't work as I've done it to my jeans before and left a big white mark

I've not done anything to it as I don't want to make it worse that it already is did consider chucking the whole dress in the wash but that probably won't help

You can get a variety of stain specific staindevils from supermarkets and hardware stores for around £2-3 each. I got an awful ink stain on my clothes (the joys of teaching) and it worked like magic! You have to follow what seem like very bizarre instructions (can't quite remember them as this was a couple of years ago now) but it was amazing to see! I seem to remember it said it was best done as soon as possible after staining (but it took me a few days to get the stuff so mine certainly wasn't a fresh stain) and before washing.... so don't try washing first just in case.

But do these things do anything to the denim itself? Or does it only target the ink?

Hairspray or nail varnish remover should shift it, don't leave on too long of course and if you want to test a small 'unseen' area first might be an idea as depends what colour/quality the dye they used is as to how colour fast it is. Using alcohol based hairspray/remover and blot the stain with a rag or some kitchen roll before washing it out (usually putting something behind the stain like a rag/kitchen roll aswell. Always worked for me. Cheaper than those stain devils. Found this trick out when my son drew on my cream leather sofa and used it on that with success.

Stain devils didn't affect/mark my skirt in any way but it wasn't denim... good tip by PP to test an inconspicuous area first and have a wad of tissue/rags behind the stain (seem to remember that was part of the instructions for the stain devils). I know the stain devils are expensive but in my case it was money well spent (a £40 skirt would have been ruined otherwise) and each bottle contains enough for several treatments if you need it!

Came out after applying my rather expensive Dior nail varnish remover but hey that's a small price to pay. Washed it out afterwards with some handwash (don't have any soap lol) and the dress is now drying happily :beer: From what I can see the stain's totally gone and it's as if it was never there :j

Well done, I always keep nail varnish remover and hairspray in, may not ever wear nail varnish but the remover comes in handy especially on the kids school clothes, always covered in the 'washable' ink the school uses that never comes out with just washing them! DP uses it for getting the glue off the tyres on his RC cars aswell as many other cleaning jobs.
