Do I ring them or wait patiently?

Hi all,

I went for a job interview yesterday and they said they would ring me at the end of the day to let me know if I was successful or not. Great I thought! nothing worse than waiting...well if your impatient like me anyway. :p

Well the end of the day came and went, and they still haven't rang.

Should I ring them? Or will it make me look like a pest?

The lady said she would ring me the day I handed my CV in but she didn't, she rang me the next day so should I give her a chance? :o

Phone on Monday / Tuesday if you haven't heard anything. You might look a bit too eager if you phone the day after.

You could ring, but be careful how you phrase it. Something along the lines of 'I wondered if you could confirm when I'll hear' rather than 'have I got the job'.

And it being Friday makes a difference too - if it were another day of the week then I'd say do it tomorrow to give them chance, but you don't really want to be waiting over the weekend if you can help it.

If they already have 'form' for being a little late with phone calls etc. do as scheming_gypsy suggests and give them a polite call at the start of next week asking them if a decision has been taken.

It's a shame employers don't stick to their word in letting you know, but i personally would give them a call and ask, you can't lose anything by it, and it does show that you are eager to start work.

Well she did say she was hoping to start one of the roles tomorrow as it will be quiet so can get on with training so did think I would of heard by now, but she also said it might go to second interviews if she cannot decide?! Cutting it a bit fine if the role needs to be filled tomorrow!

I'll wait a bit longer and see...

the second interviews might relate to the other role(s) not the one starting tomorrow. I would wait until Monday to call them, however, as she might have been delayed for some reason.

In that sort of position I always assume that they've offered it to someone else and are waiting for them to say yes or no before calling the other candidates. So I'd give them time to sort themselves out before calling. It can bother people and put them off if youi're not careful.

    Update:

I was offered the job, not just the job but the permanent one which is the one I wanted.

Thanks for all the advice, I didn’t ring in the end, they rang me.

    Patience is a virtue. :o
