Marrying my OH who has debt

Hi folks, I've been posting on a few of the other forums and suggested I post here too.:money:

To cut a long story short, I would like to set a date and finally marry my OH (we were to be married before but my mum passed away and I just couldn't commit at the time).

My only worry now is that I am marrying into debt. It's not an out of control amount and is being paid off via a trust deed (now only 2.5 years left to pay). I want to get married within a year as I don't want to the costs to get out of control as time goes on plus I really don't like planning a wedding for too long.

We have no current financial link (e.g. no joint bank a/c, mortgage is in my name etc), will we be financially linked by being married? And is there any situation you can think of where I might somehow become responsible for his debt? Any ideas?

As far as I'm aware, marrying someone won't create a financial link to them, only if you have joint financial products. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I understand it you only become linked by joint financial products.

Your problem will come if you want a joint mortgage. Otherwise, keeping your finances separate is the way to go.
