Cleaning the dusty edges of a light-coloured carpet

I have a washing-up brush which I keep to use along the edges. It's quite stiff and rectangular with a V shaped end. If it's a blue moon I'll follow along with a damp rubber glove to make sure the tiny bits of fluff come out before vacuuming.
I'd recommend what mrstittlemouse says about caulking - I asked the carpet chap why I keep getting that line of pale carpets & told me that's the best thing to do, although that was after we'd had the new ones laid.0 -
As I said earlier the marking is not necessarily dust, it can be that that since that area is not brushed by the average vacuum cleaner it is staying true to original colour , whereas the middle of the carpet is bleaching a bit. I have carried out an experiment today and it appears to help quite a bit, but does not entirely clear the problem. Spray the edges with an oxy cleaner I would use Vanish gold . Get hold of a cordless drill and attach a soft buffing pad to it, now buff the area while it is still wet. The use of the drill lets you put more work into it over a short period. I stress a cordless electric drill as you do not wish to play with a mains powered drill in the presence of a liquid. Also I would imagine that a mains powered drill might be too aggressive and will wear away, or tear at your carpet0

I was told its called seepage and it's dust from under the floor boards, nothing seemed to move it from my cream bedroom carpet and we now have a wooden floor. I like the caulking idea from a much earlier post and I'm sure that would work well.Slightly bitter0
