Can anyone help me get into windows XP when it is asking for a password for run. I keep typing it but Windows XP says NO!
It's an oldish laptop I have and not used for a while but I use the same password so a bit baffled that Windows says it's wrong.
This is pretty much what it looks like. (image found on google)

If anyone can help I would be very grateful!

for run?
3 fields (ie name/pwd/domain) or 2?
caps lock/numlock on?
test what you are typing in the username field.!!

Sorry wasn't sure how to explain it and chose the worst explanation possible. To load into windows I meant!
I've tried all sorts with the password and am getting nowhere. I have no idea why it's password protected as thought I had turned it off.
Don't use it on my main laptop but just wanted to format it for a gaming laptop.
There are two fields, user name which it puts in automatically and password. The image above was from google to show it's not like the other login screen.0 -
normal term is login/logon
try administrator
and no password
is the username one you know of!!

yes, its one I use quite often I tried administrator and it did nothing. The annoying thing is I don't have a windows disk for this one as it has a recovery partition if that makes sense. There is no data I want to keep but it has a load of programs on there all set up ready to use.0

are you sure what you are typing in the password field, is what is being entered? ie type it into the username to check. also try safe mode, f8 at boot, and administrator as the username, and blank password
2 solutions if you don't get anywhere, a password reset boot disk, or factory restore

when I try as administrator it says unknown user. The CD reader won't open to try and boot from a password reset cd. Also I can't get into the command prompt either via safe mode without the same logon request appearing.
Tell a lie, bf just got CD reader to open with a little gadget!
Trying it now0 -

Very usfull little program. Thanks loads closed0 -
I tried this same prog a few days ago, with a windows 7 machine, but it couldn't locate the password to reset it. I found a bigger prog called ophcrack, and this finds the passwords rather than blanking them. Worked a treat!0

The bottom box, why is it there there? Is it joined to a Domain?
Try changing this to the option that has "(this computer)" next to it?A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0
