Desperate for seb/derm rosacea help

Hi guys,

I am new to the board. I actually sent this as a pm to suki who has given me some advice before, but after sending it said that the message could not be sent so I am posting it here out if sheer desperation. I really am sorry to suki if the pm i sent has turned up and this looks like me being totally overzealous and desperate!

Anyway, this was the pm and I apologise for the length!

Could you help me with a little seb derm/rosacea query?

For removing the scales of seb derm do you think that the OCM would be good for me? I get scales in the centre of my forehead and around the nose. I get a redness on my cheeks and I struggle with blotchy/spottiness on my forehead and nose. I have been using the trilogy very gentle moisturiser cleanser which doesnt seem to help my problems although I rinse off rather than using a washcloth.

Which oils would you recommend for the OCM and where do you get them? Do you do it every day or just occasionally with something else in between?

My scalp condition has improved with essential care tea tree shampoo but would you recommend coconut or avocado oil as a pre treatment (there are still some dry patches of white skin and I fear that as my hair gets longer the patches will get bigger as this has happened before). I mostly get just patchy white skin as opposed to scale but I do get some scale around the hairline and the flaky white skin can be very persistent at times.

My body gets some dry patches and spots on the upper body. I have just started body brushing and I just rinse my body with water but this doesnt seem to improve the spots and skin tone. Do you recommend an alternative?

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your advice. I have had a lot of heartache with these issues but I remain positive!

Best wishes

Daniel

Have you considered looking into something like the Clarisonic brush? Apparently it's very good for flaky skin and rosacea. It's insanely expensive though, so bare that in mind! There is a slightly cheaper rival on the market called the Nutra Sonic (which always makes me think of the JK song Super Sonic, but anyway....) and that's been well received so far. I've got the Nutra Sonic on order from the states; it's available here but it worked out cheaper to import it, plus I could then afford the top of the range one which comes with a body brush and a sensitive setting and brush head. Worth researching if you think it's something that might be of use. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or ask on here :)

I'm interested in replies about the facial problem as I too have the same condition.

When my scalp breaks out into flaky patches I use Clynol Hair Tonic - it's the only thing which works on 'curing' an acute situation. It's available from hairdressers which stock Clynol products and, I believe that it's the same product as Schwarzkopf but haven't tested it.
  • I recently read one book Rosacea Cure and in this book they provide very good tips to remove redness. I also told this tips to my sister and she used these. You can also take some help from any treatment book.

I've had fantastic results with my seb derm by using coconut oil.

You can get it from Holland & Barrett. It's solid at room temperature and you only need a tiny bit to rub into the affected area, and it lasts for ages.

Think I originally read about it on a rosacea forum. I also got diagnosed with "rosacea", but it got cured with a course of lymecycline antibiotic, so probably was just a skin infection rather than rosacea.

I've tried the OCM on and off, but can't seem to stick to it, so just use the coconut oil once or twice a week and it seems to keep my seb derm under control.

PS Just noticed the one from H&B appears to be an actual oil, whereas the one i've got is definately solid at room temperature.

OCM - castor oil - get it from any chemist
Mix with sunflower oil - Tesco/Asda/Sains - most people already have it in their kitchen

    Start with a 50/50 mix.
Apply after a shower, when your skin is nice and relaxed
Gently rub it in, think of it as a facial massage.

Leave in, have a cup of tea, chill out
Rinse off with a warm flannel and tons of water
    Feel pampered

    Good luck
