It depends on what you want.
I switched to Coventry Building Society to get a current account and told then from day one I was in credit problems etc.
they do not give you an overdrat or debit card (both of which I didnt want anyway) and its impossible to go into any sort of debt (even by a penny) so they were happy to let me open an account with them.
Look at going to one of the small independant places like that. You will find its more personnel and there decission will be based more on the judgement of the bank person that the number crunching computer. (More like the old days when you got to know your bank manager)0 -
            thanks for that info :-)
I dont have any little independant places that like near me unfortunately mostly the bigger banks

hi there, i have a hideous credit rating but have just opened an easycash account with halifax. You get a visa electron card with this account but no overdraft or chequebook. they dont credit check as such they just check your file to see if you have any record of fraud. The account can only be opened by mail, you can apply online or obtain a form from your local branch. I wouldnt bother with alliance and leicester as they currently have a 2 month backlog on basic account applications. Good Luck opening an account.0

I'm in Nationwide but they wouldnt give me an electron debit card, didnt want anything else just wanted to get my shopping online and save money, but A&l gave me a great account its the 6% interest one although I was strong enough to decline the overdraft :money:
Its just a case of trying, I personally would try the better accounts first though
Goodluck

Try Coop Cashminder (Visa Electron and online banking) and Nationwide Flex Account (Cash Card only and Online banking)

I also have a very, very, very poor credit rating but managed to get an account with Citibank,= which includes Visa Debit Card (not Electron) and Cheque Book but card is not a cheque guarantee card - just a visa debit.
From reading other posts, it seems Citibank will offer an account to just about anyone (no offence, anyone -I'm the worst), I even read of a couple of people who were in IVA's who got one and a poster who was just discharged from bankruptcy. I think the people with a better credit rating get a cheque guarantee card too and maybe an overdraft facility though!0 -
dont you have to deposit at least £1500 a month in the Citibank current account to get the debit card etc...0
