Leasehold and Insurance

I am moving into a leasehold flat. There is an annual service charge that may include some kind of building insurance.

Do I need to purchase any building insurance? If my flat is damaged, but the remainder of the building is unaffected, then am I covered by the collective insurance policy?

I am transferring my existing contents insurance. Trying to determine if this is all I need.

Thanks.

There should be a block buildings insurance policy as you say. Your solicitor will confirm this in his enquiries to the vendor's solicitor and to whoever manages the building for the freeholder.

Assuming this is the case, your contents cover should be transferable easily. Check with the insurer.
