a few months ago the man downstair complained about a leak (said it was coming from our flat)

Called the council, our landlord, and it isn't coming from our flat.

About a month later they decided there was a pipe in the building causing this leak which is coming from upstairs' kitchen sink (they're the ONLY users of the pipe in the entire building).

The landlord upstair said that he had removed the kitchen and the plumber said it wasn't coming from his pipe.

They came out and removed all the panelling around our window to reach the pipe and decided that its actually not coming from any section we have access to but the section upstair. The council lady said that the guy upstair mustn't have had any work done.

So now, we've had this !!!!ing pipe in our house 3mths, it smells, its damp, I've had 2 chest infections (my OH has had 1 - IDK if it's related but it might be) and I'm super !!!!ed.

We called the landlord a couple of weeks ago to find out what was happening and apparently the landlord upstair is stalling, and has called the council building reservation people? And that the guy is on !!!!ing holiday.

I'm super !!!!ed. I feel bad for wanting to call the landlord again, because I'm pretty sure he'd let us know of any changes, but it's really frustrating me. Sorry, had to rant!!

Don't feel bad about wanting to live in a decent property. Keep contacting your landlord until something gets done. I'd be calling them every single day.

I'm not sure...we've had no contact with the council ourselves, the landlord is the only person we can rely on tbh, and he seems pretty frustrated with the situation too.

I might just email Edinburgh Council with that pic and tell them to get it sorted, or do you think that's rude towards our LL?

Its not rude at all. The council should appreciate you raising this issue. I would send them the details ASAP.
