N.I. and retirement?

My wife becomes pensionable in September but will continue working [though delaying her payments].Will she still have taken N.I .from her pay or does it automatically stop on pensionable age?

It stops on state pensionable age.

You need to apply for an Age Exception Certificate.

She needs to get a certificate from the DWP to give to her employer who will cease taking NI.

Some employers may do it automatically if they know her age - but you can't rely on this.

what about male civil servants who retire at 60 and continue working? can they apply for this Age Exception Cert?

I'm presuming its 65 for a male assuming its not after 2016?

if you're retired you aren't working
but nevertheless males (even privileged civil servant) pay NI on earnings until 65

Males can also apply for this certificate if they continue working after state pension age - currently 65

i know plenty of cs who have retired and are still working - depends on your definition of retired - my def means receiving pension
your def obviously means not working
