£25 to feed four...but ran into trouble!

Options
We've been coping with feeding us all (2 adults, 2 children) for £25 per week. Unfortunately this week we've found out two of us need specialist diets!
Eldest DD (eight) has lactose intolerance, Hubby has Hypothroidism. Both diagnosed this week.

Great that we know and can do something, but it's threatening to break the bank!

Anyone have any suggestions as to what on earth I can cook? I may have to trade them in for newer models lol :rotfl:

This is a list of foods to AVOID for hypothyroidism:
walnuts
soy beans
broccoli
cabbage
cauliflower
turnips
peaches
strawberries
peanuts
radishes
tofu
spinach

and obviously no milk products for DD.
Luckily she does like soya, and the lactofree range

I should also add, we're looking for lunches and tea's. Breakfasts are fairly easy as we have either value cereal, porridge or toast.

We also grow our own veg and have a crop of potatoes, onions and carrots almost ready :j

I also have hypothyroidism and I do not avoid any food, I eat whatever I want.
I have never been told to avoid anything.

Oh really? Well that's encouraging I guess! :p We were told to follow something like the South Beach diet.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wasn't told to avoid strawberries and peaches.

I adore broccoli and cabbage (which might be a bit weird)and eat everything on the list, but just not regularly.

It might also help to look at what you should consider eating more of :). e.g. We (healthy dh and me) have oster fridays when they are in season....not cheap but cheaper than fish and chips for two , and much healthier.

Hey bmj, don't think I can help much but I just wanted to say I am very impressed at you feeding a family of 4 for only £25 a week - I wish I could do the same! Any hints?

My daugther and I are both lactose intolerant and the Lactofree range is a godsend but very expensive - don't mean to hijack but if anyone knows of any cheaper alternatives please shout! Unfortunately we've been spoilt with the lovely taste of Lactofree and don't really like soya milk too much.

    ditto.
I did read about not having too much broccolui and cabbage but apart from that special diets aren't required as far as I know. Unless maybe you are very overweight and Hypothyroid.

check out approvedfood as they do various ranges of gluten/lactose free etc quite cheap. I think (but not sure as it was my great uncle that use to get this and he passed away a few years ago) that you can get lactose free powdered millk
