Do they pay any passenger allowance, do your business trips ever involve taking other people.
Not normally. I may occasionally take a colleague but very rarely, although they have acknowledged you can claim extra for a passenger.0 -
Many thanks for everyone's help - it is much appreciated.
As a long time lurker (with this being my first post), it is nice for people to offer help so readily.
I guess the key is that I go to them directly with my concerns and hope something can be done. If not, I have to decide to what lengths I should go to . . .
Thanks again.

Thinking about it a bit more how many private miles do you tend to do.
With your tight budget and the right purchase you could end up better off in the medium term.
The other thing would be to do a full financial review to try to undestand why you are strugling.
Have you done a SOA before?

perhaps do one and have a review as if you were a debtfreewanabee0 -
It did, butI thought the HMRC rate went up to 45p this year?
the employer doesn't HAVE to pay those rates: we're still stuck on 40p per mile. While we could reclaim tax on the missing 5p per mile, I can't see many of us doing so ...Looks like that is correct, here's the linky for hmrc rates for 2011

I can't see many of us doing so ...
Why on earth not?
I used to work for a company who paid beneath the HMRC rate, so reclaimed the tax difference at the end of each tax year. I used to get a few hundred quid of tax refund without fail, why would anyone turn their noses up at that?0 -
OP - have you thought about leasing a car? I don't know loads about it but there are plenty of leasing companies taking advantage of these car allowances. I also believe the car would be covered for repairs etc0

Taking on a lease contract is a bigger risk than a loan if you lose your job.0

I think you should count yourself lucky.
How many public employees would get the same conditions you have been offered?
Why do private employes get all these gold plated deals?Signature removed club member No1.
It had no link, It was not to long and I have no idea why.0
