The Saxon Staffordshire hoard Exhibition at Tamworth Castle
August 27th – September the 18th
Tamworth Castle is honoured to host a temporary exhibition of the amazing Staffordshire Hoard. Around forty pieces of the stunning Saxon gold will be on display in the Castle's Great Hall, within an exciting interactive exhibition.
Once the Ancient Capital of Mercia, Tamworth was the royal centre of the Mercian kings, visited frequently by King Offa. Military power was the key to Tamworth's existence and the magnificent sword fittings within the hoard may well be part of the royal treasure store of the Mercian Kings, buried to hide it from invaders.
Be quick to catch the display at Tamworth Castle before the hoard goes on tour to America.
Admission to the exhibition and the Castle is FREE through out the three weeks with extending opening from 10am to 5.30pm, last admission 4.00pm.
Pre-booking is necessary, to obtain free admission tickets please contact Tamworth Tourist Information Centre. 01827 709581/709618. Fax: 01827 709582.

Many thanks OP.
The Saxon hoard is exquisite. We queued for hours when it first came to stoke on trent. I was particularly impressed with the hatch markings behind the garnet settings. They were shimmering still in the display cases.
We haven't yet been to tamworth castle do will certainly use this opportunity.
Thanks yet again!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
