I agree but those costs can be alot, plus as I said there are hidden costs such as the wage of the recruiter etc

yes agencies are normally around 20% of the salary so if its 20k the employer pays 4k to the agency
13 staff cost my last employer about 70k but if they had only paid better salaries in the first place most people would have stayed only saving the company money!

On the other hand where I worked it only cost about a days labour when we last advertised a job because we advertised in the store and on our website and got enough applicants.

my old co was a large company in London and they always used agencies very stupidly

To be fair, the job description you posted isn't an advanced role - it's basically a sales ledger clerk.

That would bore me, and I have way less than 20 years experience.

it was advertised as Accounts Assistant & never said they were after a junior. I never said it was advanced.

there will be costs due to lost training...I am in week 3 in a new role (hotel co in management, coincidentally) it is a massive project, and a lot to figure out1

I have though placed an ad for a reservations clerk, £15.5K and the usual bens of a global co, have had quite a selection of CVs from those extremely overqualified for the role, to those who are plucking chickens in a factory or driving for a living, or other skills completely not related to our person specification. No disrespect to those careers, but we were very specific with what systems knowledge and prev experience we wanted, well known in this industry, and we know we will be able to gain someone with that skill set, which we need to do as they will be working alone in the role and having to be able to set up their own processes etc in line with most hotels (and it might sound an easy job, but there is a lot to learn, and contacts to make).

It is difficult for me to consider highly qualified individuals in the international h0tel industry, but not in that specific function, merely as the training support will be nigh on impossible in a busy time. Interestingly, very few, if any wrote a decent letter with their CV, which might have better explained their motivation, and it's hard for us to know who actually really wants the job (you can normally see that with those that are at the right level though. For others, are they applying because the job centre told them so, I dont know. Lots of CVs from all over the country and world, but again not covered off in a letter. These are things that might not seem important, but they are. For 75%, there is no passion/enthusiasm in their application, and not all of these are unemployed, in fact few seem to be.

Anyway, tomorrow I will start calling people for interview, wish me luck!:T

they wouldn't need to train people if they took on people who could do the job or make it clear in the advert if you have more than 10 years expereince, do not apply.

There will always been a settling in period, no matter how skilled you are, that's all I meant.

yes but the more skilled you are the easier it will be for you to adapt to the new role and do all the tasks on the job spec

You said 'this role was a big role or so the advert said:'

Actually it isn't, accounts assistant was the job title, that's your first clue that it is a junior role, the fact that it twice mentions 'giving support' to the accounts staff is another clue as this would mean primarily assistant/admin/clerical/low level work, thirdly most of the work described is pretty basic if you look at it right. I look after this type of work in our firm and most of these tasks are delegated out to the most junior people who work in admin and have no accounting experience. Of course, some of these tasks CAN be advanced, but looking at the overall role, it's clear this job isn't. this sounds like a pretty basic sales ledger/accounts assistant job to me, not a big role at all. It's the sort of thing you could easily give to someone with no experience and they could do with a couple of days training. I know, because that's what we do and the people who do this work for us also work in our reception, answering phones, making tea, doing admin etc.

    Characteristics of the position
Give support in Accounts Receivable for the HAcO (Hotel Accounting office) for the 3 london hotels. Key words 'give support' Ensure all money received are applied to customers accounts on a daily basis. This is a simple enough task, posting monies received. Daily Cashflow forecasting. Filling in figures on an existing report. To enable the effective credit control of 30 days payment receipts by accurate billing. raising invoices. Income Audit duties. I wouldn't take this as serious auditing in relation to the rest of the tasks, more like counting the cash. Ad hoc projects as required by the organization. Organising the Christmas dinner? Month-end reporting involment. Photocopying the reports? Providing some figures to the manager? who knows. 'Involvement' doesn't mean you are doing the Management reports. This is a role of support for the Accounting Office so you aren't a key member of the accounting office
    Important tasks and responsibilities
To ensure the correct control procedures as dictated by the ** Hotels are in place for credit sale billing do as you are told
