Are you sure that is correct? I was under the impression that Santander would also be taking over the branch accounts and that RBS were not allowed to directly contact customers in order to hold onto them?
However a customer could contact RBS and ask to be moved to another branch and their banking remain with RBS?
I've just asked an old colleague and you're correct, the terms of the sale seem to have changed since I worked there! Sorry for the misinformation.0 -
Well, we applied for a HSBC basic bank account. The cards arrived this morning, with no chips in them! I called up to check this was correct and was told yes, basicaly we can do everything except chip & pin payments! Grr! We weren't told this when we applied, so won't be moving our account to there.
Just phoned the co-op and their cards all have chips in them so i'll get a phone application done today.
Very strange how in this day & age banks issue cards with no chips lol.0 -
The HSBC basic account isn't even a debit card it's literally just a cash machine card!! You Don't get a cheque book and also cannot withdraw cash over the counter either - it is truly a 'BASIC' account

I'm in an IVA and have HSBC and CO-OP basic accounts. I have all my ingoings and outgoings through the HSBC - this means I am not tempted to use the CO-OP debit card while out shopping - I have to physically withdraw cash from HSBC or move it to my CO-OP account if I want to buy something online. This has drastically reduced my non essential spend (except for my paypal / ebay spending) !!0
