What OS remedies actually work?

I'm trying to put together a few OS remedies for the cupboard - herbal teas, lozenges, syrups, salves etc. Last year I made Elderberry syrup for colds which was unbelievably foul, and Horehound cough drops that flew out of my mouth faster than I had popped them in! I made a comfrey salve for my son's injured wrist last month but tbh i'm not sure if it made much difference
I'm lucky enough to have a Neal's Yard about 20mins away so ingredients are quite easy to get, although I would like to plan a herb garden for more than just cooking use! Does anyone make HM remedies or keep dried herbs handy for herbal teas? I used to give my kids hot honey and lemon for coughs until a Ukrainian friend said "No no! Hot honey and milk is what you must give" and it did work much better. Any other suggestions please?

I'm not very OS with my medicine. I use Witch Hazel for bumps and bruises, Savlon disinfectant for cuts and the real deal for cough medicine. I'd rather whack it with everything I have than suffer for twice as long using a traditional remedy.
For colds, soluble paracetamol mixed with warm lemonade, with a blob of honey honey and a clove studded slice of lemon makes a great "lemsip". Have a shot of whiskey in there if you're so inclined0 -
Sorry Dandy candy but I'll had to close this as you're asking for medical advice
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
