Aldi Rich Roast instant coffee-am I missing something?

Im sure that a couple of years ago there was a lot of media coverage over the fact that this coffee had beaten more expensive brands in a Which taste test.
Well, I bought it then and thought it wasn't very nice, and this week I thought I'd try it again-its not got any better. It seems to have that cheap chicory-ish taste and is very wishy washy.
Its the one in the red jar-about £1.50. I am pretty sure that this is the "winner" (even though Aldi do more upmarket instants such as a "Gold Blend" type). I'd be interested to hear what others who have tried it think.
And yes, I know that a lot of people think that instant is rubbish, but I am not very "high end" and happen to prefer it....

I much prefer instant too. We used to get the Aldi coffee but didn't really like it, just got used to it. Money got even tighter so we swopped to Mr S basic which is now 47p per 100g and is surprisingly quite good."A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0
