Just wondering how much people pay for their alterations eg turning up trouser length, etc.

I go to a wee woman who only charges £2 for everything it seems!!
I've had trousers & dresses taken up, trousers taken out at waist, long sleeves shortened, straps added to or taken off a dress and never charged more than £2 per item.

The items are ready within 2 days and the work completed is excellent!!

I used to go to a woman who charged £5 for trousers - when she charged £10 for replacing a zip it was time to move on!!

That £10 was probably less than minimum wage depending on the length and type of the zip. The woman who charges £2 for everything can't be earning anything close to minimum wage.

It's no coincidence that it's harder and harder to find people to do alterations when people expect skilled work for so little pay.

I have alterations done by a local lady who charges far too little as well. I'm always telling her that she needs to charge more as I don't understand how it's worth her while. However, if you can find someone like this, they're worth their weight in gold.
