Its been a while.......

Hello all,

I used to come on the forum but then baby number 2 was on way and both me and oh lost our jobs so I sort of neglected the forum......not wanting to admit to failings I was sure I was going to make.

I'm proud to say I can come back with my head held high and since Feb 2010 I have reduced our debt by
17125.06 (inc mortgage) or
4421.56 (exc mortgage)

That's just over a year even with losing our jobs and gaining an extra mouth to feed.

The next year will be tough, payments can't increase as I will have to return to work(luckily offered a new position) and oh will have to stay home with the babies while looking for evening work so all our money will have to go on keeping us afloat as cant afford 1600 per month on childcare  luckily Ive moved all but 1 to 0% deals so the small amount we can afford will pay off proper amounts!

Anyway I seem to have a good plan but Just wanted to reintroduce myself as will hopefully be posting here a lot more so.

Back story for those who dont know
Basically Got with my oh he not being financially minded did not know the extent of his debt so I asked to take a look since we were buying a house and I needed to know our family's finanical situation.
We were shocked to see the amounts. It was about 30k cards and overdrafts on high interests having nothing paid off. I had no debt :A lol
Mild Panic
Then sat down and found this site. Read through some tips and especially found the tarting business helpful. Me (being super girlfriend that I am) take over all finances from now on. Moved all cards to 0%'s paid one od with some savings of mine and now we're paying off things with no interest which means can really see a difference.
I've took over some of his debt so it can go on 0% deals. I don't mind contributing to the payments as the quicker its paid the quicker our family will have more money
He will owe me a very expensive Engagement ring at the end of this so I see it as an investment into my future :p

A x

Well done on the debt busting so far, very impressive with all you have been through.

Thank you hopefully I can pick up or recap on some other tips. Get myself stuck into some money making challenges as I find the sleepless nights have lead to a lack of motivation!!!

thanks lovey's good to see there's other partners helping out their loved ones. Have had a few nasty remarks about it but I think if your a family you deal with things as a family :)
We have a lot of years too even if I carried on the rate I have done over the last year then that's 5 years to go.....scary when I look at it like that so I just take each month as it comes instead.

Also we have to look at buying a new house as ours is simply too small. I am anticipating a bit of an increase in debt at this point but its not really something I can help.

Hopefully with the support from this forum I will stay sane :)

No doubt some of the nasty comments are meant, but I find most of the issues on this board come down to two categories:

1 - the facepalm - regular forumites can see the massive black hole at the middle, newbies have just stuck their head over the parapet and don't have a clue... the regulars just forget that not everyone knows as much as them, and are not very patient...

2 - the defence - if you are posting "you are one of us and must be protected", from everyone... everywhere... everywhich way... even when you don't really need it, didn't ask for it, and it's not really that helpful!

***holds hand up*** I'm as guilty as the next forumite with these, I think about 90-95% of nasty posts fall under these, the other 5-10%, well, they are nasty but its a better % than most forums.

    Welcome back and well done!

Nasty comments are more along the lines of "You are a mug for taking on your partners debt" and the likes, and more in RL than on the board.... tbh I've never had any trouble that I can remember from the board. I'm just a regular person trying to be debt free and if I can offer advice that I've picked up to others then great I will and If others can offer me advice then (although I might not always take it) that's great too :)
